Introduction

The first recorded use of a microneedling procedure was in 1905 by German dermatologist Ernst Kromayer. He used various-sized dental burs powered by motor-driven flexible cord equipment to treat scars, birthmarks, and hyperpigmentation. The treatment has come a long way since then and prides itself on capitalizing on the body’s natural healing processes by inducing collagen and elastin and reaping the associated benefits.

What is microneedling?

At Radiant, we use only the Genosys Needle Pen-K which is an automatic device for microneedling therapy. It uses 16 sterile needles to create microchannels in the surface of the skin which allows powerful skin rejuvenation products to penetrate the skin further while also stimulating the production of collagen.

The Needle Pen-K can create over half a million microchannels during a 5-10 minute treatment, penetrating deeper through the epidermis.

It increases the absorption rate of active ingredients of skin care products by creating physical pathways through the skin and it promotes collagen and elastin induction through natural wound healing.

Benefits include induction of collagen and elastin production, firms, brightens and lifts skin, improves fine lines and wrinkles, improves scarring, contracts pores and improves stretch marks.

Treatment areas

Microneedling is mostly used on the face and can be particularly useful when targeting areas of hyperpigmentation and scarring. Microneedling can also be used for scarring and strechmarks on the body.

What to expect at your appointment

As with any aesthetic procedure, it is absolutely essential that a full and comprehensive consultation is performed prior to any treatment. The consultation will always include your past medical and surgical history, lifestyle, allergies and medications.

Microneedling using the Genosys Pen involves moving the pen over the face in circular motions to allow the needles to penetrate the surface of the skin. The treatment is minimally invasive and should not be painful. The skin is likely to appear a little red and irritated and may feel a little tender. Some pinpoint bleeding may be visible. An SPF must be worn as this procedure will increase the risk of sun damage.

What are the results?

This treatment offers an array of results you’ll love. Some of them, like skin tightening, will show up nearly immediately. Others will take between four and six weeks to fully develop. That’s the time it takes your body to ramp up collagen production and cellular turnover so you can get the new, healthy skin you want.

What are the risks?

Microneedling with the Genosys device means that the treatment is minimally invasive with very few risks. The skin may feel tight afterwards and patients sometimes liken the feeling post treatment as like ‘light sunburn’.
